The Summer Road is located at the south end of Fairview and is an emergency egress for the subdivision in case of wildfire. To reduce the damage to the road and reduce maintanace cost, please use the road as an exit only, no uphill traffic.

There is no Summit County maintenance. The Association has paid for minimal maintenance in the summer, but the road is not plowed in the winter and it is usually not passable except by serious 4x4 vehicles. The road is steep with a sharp switchback and should not be used except for emergencies. In the winter it should not be used at all.

It is unsafe for trucks or trailers to use the road because of the steep grade and short hairpin curve.

SSOA applied for and received grants from Summity County’s Community Wildfire Prevention Program to conduct an engineering study, prepare a design to improve the road, and to make the recommended improvements. These improvements included repairing and improving the drainage system and adding road base and signage.  These were finished in August, 2023. 

It is still a gravel road and as such will require annual maintenance.

We’re fortunate in Silver Shekel to have an abundance of wildlife, including black bear, deer, moose, raccoons, fox, porcupines and others. As tempting as it may be, you should never feed or approach any wildlife. Do not put trash bins out overnight unless they are of the “bear-proof” style.

Dues paid by our members fund the activities of the Association, which include the  annual Clean-up Day, Summer Road maintenance, legal fees, insurance, the Annual Meeting and BBQ, etc.

Per the Silver Shekel Responsible Governance Policies, there is a five dollar ($5.00) late fee and interest will accrue at the rate of eight percent (8%) per year from January 1 if the annual dues assessment is not paid in full by March 31. Also, interest will be added quarterly on April 1, July 1, October 1, and January 1 on all unpaid balances.

There are many plants that are considered invasive and/or noxious weeds by the state and Summit County authorities and we have a number of them right here in Silver Shekel.

The Association uses email as its primary communication means. Please add your email address to our database so that you can receive the important neighborhood-related messages that the Board sends from time to time.

Silver Shekel Protective Covenants require SSOA approval of construction plans. We rely on Summit County for structural review and compliance with all the building codes. Association review is primarily for compatibility with the neighborhood (color, exterior materials, etc.) and the effect of the improvements on neighboring lots. The Association owns a bank of mailboxes near the entrance on Fairview Blvd. Mailboxes are provided to members only, on a space available basis and per US Postal Service policies. Summit County does not allow parking on county roads, which include the roads in Silver Shekel. Please observe this regulation. Parked vehicles hinder traffic and make it difficult for snow plows to keep our streets clean. 

Short-term renters are often unaware of the ordinance and their vehicles could be ticketed, damaged or towed.

If you are renting your home, please remind your renters, too!

We love our pets in Silver Shekel, and we  love our mountain environment, too. Please keep it clean and always pick up after your dogs.

Most of our residents are very good about doing this anyway, but there are a few that never pick up after their dogs. Also, please don’t leave your poop bag on the side of the road. Dispose of it properly.

If you are renting your home, please remind your renters, too!

Do not let your pets run off leash to poop on your neighbor’s property. Not only is that being an inconsiderate pet owner, but it may be a violation of Summit County’s leash laws. The County requires all off-leash pets to be under control and within 10 feet of a person competent to control and restrain the pet. Click here for more information.

Permits from Red, White and Blue Fire Department are required for fires in residential fire pits and wood burning cooking devices.

Once you have applied RWB Fire will perform an inspection prior to approval. The process usually takes several days and will occur Mondays thru Fridays. Once approved, the permit is valid for two years. Currently, there is no cost associated with these permits.

Like much of Summit County, there are a large number of homes in Silver Shekel that are rented on a short term basis. If you are renting your home, click here for information from the county about their very specific regulations that are to be followed.
